They made a fuss about "the first time 8 women carried the Olympic flag", and how they were representative of women the world over. And all famous.

Um… I'd say the majority of women the world over are not famous (and comprise many more than a mere 8 types, two of which are "actress"). Also, at that point, they'd only mentioned Sophia Loren and Susan Sarandon as flag bearers. I'm sorry, but Susan Sarandon is not representative of me.

Then they showed Isabel Allende, and I was happy. She can be representative of me. (I also discovered that my anglo-tongue is still a problem. *sigh* But I've only ever read her name.)

Hopefully, I will not be squeesnark for the entire games. But no promises.

I like the squeesnark. It makes me think. You're right, except I think I might be more represented by Sarandon than Allende. But still... yeah!

I'm not sure. Lunch is at 12, so we might be done around 2, and might be there around 2:30-3? I can call your cell as we're on our way. Does that work?

Hey, Susan Sarandon went to my college. :) And in fact my Drama Department.

To be fair, she did not graduate. But Chris Sarandon, who also went there, did.

It's not so much Sarandon herself, although I don't love her (to be honest, she's probably one of the best choices to make from the ranks of Hollywood women). I just think that Hollywood stars have enough perks as it is. Olympic athletes for the most part are unknown, hardworking people for whom the sport is the ver first priority. Then I see things like Stephen Spielberg carrying the flag in Salt Lake City, and I think it's a lot of nerve to be claiming that honour on top of all the others that are heaped upon them.

I see movie stars as cogs in the corporate machine that's making such a mess of our world. So I don't like to see them getting their fingers into this, too.
