ginny_tWatching the Olympic opening ceremonies was a strange mix of sap and borderline snark. I get so sentimental when I'm being patriotic. I also love the fact that the original games interrupted everything. If only that were the case today.
I particularly liked the teeny teams in the Parade of Nations.
OTOH, WTF!!! The Canadians have "HBC" all over their outfits! Grrrrr! It's a good thing I'm not an Olympiad (*cry* stupid utter lack of co-ordination!), or I would've picked all the stitches out, or sewn a patch over it, or something.
And then there was the Judges' Oath. (Taken by a figure skating judge!) Any fan of figure skating, especially a Canadian one has reason to sniff disdainfully at that sight. bah!
It's very terrible, but as soon as I saw Peter Gabriel, my mind was tickled by the "he looks like ___" thing. I finally figured it out. Not The Emperor (Empire Strikes Back Emperor, not Ian McDiarmid), which was my first thought, but Darth Vader with his helmet off. (i'msoashamed!)
(In other news, the Johari site is back up. Someone picked "witty"! *blush* Um, y'know, you could choose "negative" words. I won't mind. But then, maybe in my case, I guess "logical" fits into that category!)
I still need a rampant patriotism icon.

Date: 2006-02-11 05:52 am (UTC)Hahahahah, IT'S SO TRUE. WHY do they make the judges take an oath? The figure skating judges at least? I can guarantee that while there won't be yelling of scandal, it'll be because the new judging system HIDES THEM much easier. Not because they're good judges.
