the_red_shoes linked to Queen Latifah singing^† the beautiful melancholy opening to Living Out Loud. Wow, lovely. But wait, what's this? What are they doing?! Why is she turning away from the camera? Why is there suddenly a glass in her hand? Since when is she blonde? Since when is she scrawny?!

I am thoroughly disturbed by this image of a gorgeous black woman dressed stunningly ^‡ turning into a scrawny blonde white woman in her underwear. Even once the "explanation" is given, I'm still left with an "ew" taste in my brain. Oh, Hollywood. Fail. But that kind of goes without saying.

^† A pitiful inadequate word for what she does. I hang my head.

^‡ Oh, for the figure to wear such a dress so beautifully, not to mention the pipes, oh, the pipes!

I missed what the explanation was. I'm still not sure what was going on. I saw a flash of QL on...well I thought it was a photo?

It looks to me like the blonde in need of a sandwich (yes, I should be less mean) is singing along to a recording of QL, which she turns off at the very end (I think the photo was a CD). *sigh*
