I've been having a small bug problem all summer. It's a small problem with small bugs, but it seems to be getting to be a slightly less small problem. And it's bugging me. Oh, -10 punalty.

Right, so the question: anyone have any suggestions for a kitty-friendly household of a very lazy Ginny to get rid of small bugs without too much harm to the environment? They're not ants. They're a little shorter (tip to tail) than ants, and a little wider. I really don't want to have to look at a bunch of bugs to figure out what kind these are.

Suggestions?

[Edit: I have hardwood floors and the bugs don't stick to floor level. *twitch*]

Not about vacuuming the floor. Wand attachment. Suck them out of the air or off whatever surfacce they're clinging to.

The trouble, of course, is that things that don't hurt the environment also don't hurt the bugs. ^^;;

Vacuum, the larvae almost guaranteed live at ground level. Get rid of them and the adults will naturally dwindle off.

If you could identify their point of entry you can block it

and if you vacuum, be sure to dispose of the bag quickly so that they don't crawl back out.

depending on what kind of bugs we're talking about, the force of the vacuum itself will kill them. that's certainly true of fruitflies.

Vinigar kills small bugs. Not necessarily good for the floor, though. (Vinigar is my solution for everything. It is small mammal safe.)

You could try dusting the areas you find the bugs in (and potential entry points, etc.) with diatomaceous earth "insect powder".
