I couldn't wait any longer. I read the summary & reactions.

I'm very happy with this. Very happy. Not just because Kyo rocks my world. Not just because Kyo & Tohru falling in love is one of the few depictions of that activity that's ever been convincing to me. Those are good reasons, though.

{Aside: NOT happy about Hana being hired on at the dojo. *twitch*}

I'm happy with this because it's a nice place to stop. Sure, there was a lot more that Takaya-sensei could have included, but they weren't necessary. They would've been nice - we've seen that she's got the skill to write things well and convincingly. We've seen that she cares about her characters. But frankly, I didn't need to see everything.

Haru & Rin ended just fine, in my opinion. *pets Ysa, who disagrees* Haru is justifibly angry with Akito and Rin is hurting, also justifiably. Akito is repentant, but doesn't try to insult them by offering an apology. That's fine. Maybe there was a confrontation, maybe there wasn't. It's a sad fact of life that many things go unresolved. Yes, we turn to fiction for escape from "real life", but...

Also, people have complained about a lack of resolution, for Momiji and Kagura particularly. Again, their own stories in the context of this larger story were resolved. They go on, they live; life is like that. So we don't see Momiji play violin for his family. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen! I wouldn't have complained about seeing it, but I didn't need it.

Some people are still complaining about last chapter's "waste". I disagree. Kyoko was a very important person to Tohru. I think that it was important to see that although Kyoko was replaced by Kyo as first in her heart, it was what Kyoko wanted. Even though Tohru doesn't see this, or learn that it's okay with her mother, it was good for readers to see.

Finally, I can't help but feel that this is part of the "I'm so sad that the series is ending" phenomenon. It's natural for sadness to be transformed into hurt (can't remember the Freudian term off the top of my head), and I'm not criticising; I'm trying to understand. Furuba has been a big part of many people's lives for quite a while now. It's natural to be sad that it's ending. And the last couple of chapters have been "summary: omg, I don't like this; scans: okay, it's not as bad as I thought". This could be another example.

In further proof that "finally" has a different meaning for me than for others, I'm glad that the flash-forward was to Kyo & Tohru as grandparents, rather than as parents. Their legacy as we see it is even stronger. ^_^

Still, for all that I'm content (so far), I'm sad to see it end.

*grumbles* I really am still waiting until scans for a final verdict, but while I'll live without any further Akito-related confrontation, I do think I'll be very bitter if the last discussion of their relationship is Rin being so scared and upset.

I LOVED the last chapter!

LOVED!

Yeah, I like the side characters too, but this is and has always been TOHRU'S story, not anyone else's.

I adored your comment about Kyoko wanting Kyo to replace her in Tohru's heart... yes, that's exactly the point of the story.

So... um... to summarize: those who didn't like the last chapter are... um... crazyheads. Okay... that wasn't a good insult now, was it?!

Yes! What you've said here very much reflects how I feel about it. I wish I could say more, but I have to go grade book reports now. *sigh*
