Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day is pretty! O.O I wish I had kept that article about how all colour images of space are "made up". Everything comes back in radio waves, and colours are assigned. I don't know if colours are assigned consistently (this gas is always this colour), or if they're prettified for aesthetics...

I did a whole bunch of watching yesterday. The last two Doctor Who. I didn't really like Army of Ghosts. Although I did like the new & improved kick-ass Mickey. Oh yes, I did! And then Doomsday was okay. I enjoyed the pissing match between the Daleks and the Cybermen. ^_^ I didn't like Rose's "I'll stay with him forever. He's so lonely." Um, girl, you remember Sarah Jane, right? You're not the first, so why would you think you'd be the last? On the other hand, I didn't mind Pete appearing out of nowhere to save her from hell. Which is odd, because normally I hate deus ex machina. (Which is what closing the breach really was.) And I don't like Pete. Actually, what I don't like is Rose's Electra complex. She's in for quite the awakening, I think.

So yeah. I guess I'll watch the Christmas special for two reasons. By then, I'll have somewhat forgotten how much I didn't care for the end of this season, and to see if I like the new Companion any better. (Although I really didn't care for her entrance.)

I also watched some Honey & Clover - the F special & ep 1 of season II. I quite liked the F special. Which surprised me, because I turned off the L special. I don't mind the silly. That's what I like about the show - the mad swing from silly to very serious & thoughtful. It's the Morita-silly I don't like. I never bonded with the character, so yeah. (Can I just grumble once more and say that this recap was a much better kind of recap than the NANA ones? Notice the plural. Okay, grumble done.) I'd forgotten how much this is the story of unrequited "love". A lot of the relationships in this are more obsession than love, but that's me splitting hairs. I do that. But I guess figuring out the difference between obsession & love is one of the challenges of that time of life. Oh, btw, ep 2 is available for dl here.

[aside: now that I'm editing subs, I find I'm noticing errors more. *sigh* I was already noticing them, but now I have a "look for them" mode. *shrug* I'll deal.]

And yes, I did spend the day sitting at the computer knitting & watching. The other thing was Haruhi Suzumiya. I've watched 5 episodes, and I quite like it so far. I think Kyon's well-done as normal-surrounded-by-freaks. And I like the "told out of order" structure. I'm reserving final judgement until I've seen the whole thing. Alas, I dl'd only 6 episodes at first, and now I'm waiting for 9 & 10 to finish.

This rain sucks. *groggy* I do enjoy the storm, though. It's pretty much right on top of me. Too bad about the reduced visibility. I can't even see as far as Davisville. On the bright side, the carpet trees across the street is green & wet and kind of shimmery. Pretty.

I have all of Suzumiya Haruhi downloaded (I think I've also seen five eps., or maybe it's six?), if your download gets annoying. ^^

*loffs* Oooooh, yes, that would be wonderful! (You don't by any chance have any of the first 4 raws of kokumono, do you? (Although those aren't as important.) Stupid stalled downloads!)

*snuggles*

I think Chris is busily trying to set things so I can just upload to Zergling myself, which would be nice. ^_^ So we'll see what we can do. But no, I don't have the earlier Kokumomo raws. :/

I've got all the eps from l33t-raws and can yousendit to both of you if you like. Just let me know which eps you need. ^_^

That would be awesome. ^_^ The ones I need are 1-4. (Seems I need me a "Shadow is awesome" icon, to go along with the "As my Ysa commands" one. ^_~)

The torrents seem to be behaving now. *touch wood* Amazing what happens when I reduce the number of torrents and stop splintering my bandwidth. ^_~

Are you ok for everything up to 13? I put 9-13 up on my space on Zergling, but now it's refusing my browser's connection, so Chris is tweaking it some more.

Everything seems to be working now, if it's faster for you to snag from us (same link as the post I made on June 22). ^^

I don't think the Bride is the new companion, but rather just a Xmas Special girl.

I've seen all of Haruhi Suzumiya and it's probably the best thing I've watched lately. Episode 12 is especially awesome, as you'll no doubt find out. If you like it, you may also be interested in this, which is a project to translate the original novels on which the anime is based.

I would think they would consistently assign colours, it would just make sense if they are using the pictures to track and not to make pretty pictures.

Good point. The article that I read & lost had quite a "you're not seeing the truth" feel to it, which left me with my impression. Then again, yours is a very good point.

The sad thing is you arn't quite seeing the truth, just a visual representation there-of.

Astronomy pictures use wildly different colour assignments depending on what they're attempting to show. It's usually not so much for the aesthetics, though. For example, I've seen pictures of deep interstellar space that had various frequencies across a huge spectrum cranked up so that the radiation coming off the thin, cold gas clouds out there came across as auroras of colour. The sun, on the other hand, you have to block most of the spectrum and assign colours to a tiny narrow band, or else you just get an overexposed white disk.
