The Pride & Prejudice was … okay, I guess. The A&E is still the best ever. Still, I only shrieked in two scenes - when Lizzie is distraught at hearing about Lydia, and the last scene between Lizzie and Darcy. Considering which two scenes, that's rather major. The ridiculousness of the characters was quite watered-down. Mr. Collins was bland, Lady Catherine wasn't near as rude as she should have been, and the 5 sisters sometimes mished into a mash of bland. Even Lizzie. Worried that people will say the Bennet girls are officer-crazy? WTF! Mary's character was unrecogniseable. In all, bah! (Surprisingly, Mr. Darcy was pretty good. No Colin Firth, but pretty good.)

I don't think the pros should be at the Olympics. I have felt that way since they forced their way into the sport. (Okay, no, I don't know all the particulars, but that's the feeling I have about how it went.) The Canadian women wanted gold, and they came here hungry. The Canadian men thought they had a right to the gold, and they came and coasted their way out of the tournament.

I just don't think the pros have the right Olympic attitude. Other athletes struggle and scrimp and save and have to fit their training in around their lives and sacrifice to get to the Olympics. The pros have it written into their contracts that they get time off for the games. It's no inconvenience to them. Don't they have enough? It was better without the pros.

I thought I had an "out" regarding my pathetic knitting progress. When I tried on the socks they were stiff, and I decided they wouldn't go over my knee, so I should stop them at the knee. Then I washed them. (Because much as I try to delude myself, I'm not very good at it.) They're still drying, but much softer and nicer. *sigh* Back to the grind.

Good thing I have Monday off. I'm going to laze around and not knit!

You're not very good at washing?

No, I'm not very good at deluding myself that stopping at the knee isn't quitting.

yarrrr…

Are you taunting my personal assitant? Just because he's a Buccaneer-Canadian, that doesn't mean you can poke fun ...

And I'm still voting for the washing thing. :P

I did wash them, and they're much better for it.

Well, no, I mean that you're not good at the washing ... not really referring to the socks, either. ;)

LOL

For completely different reasons, and most likely they shouldn't be discussed on someone else's page. ;)

You liked that Darcy?!?

Yeah, I didn't mind him. I thought he did pretty well being rude & proud & disdainful. Not as good a Darcy as Colin Firth, but much better than Olivier.

Who played Darcy in this version?

David Rintoul (IMDB link: http://imdb.com/name/nm0727778/ - no picture, though)

I hated that last scene, as well. I understand that last scene wasn't part of the UK version.

There haven't been any Canadian amateurs at the Olympics for decades. Even when, uniquely, NHL players weren't allowed to compete, the team was made up of minor and junior league players, all paid professionals. In all the other sports the competitors are either self supporting pros or financed by Sports Canada.

Besides, when we did send the "amateurs", they got their clocks cleaned by the pros from Russia and elsewhere. And it's a large inconvenience for the NHLers and their teams to have to break for two weeks in the middle of the season. Having Hasek get himself hurt in the first six minutes against Germany has this entire city on edge.

Team owners don't want the players going to the Olympics, so we probably won't see the agreement renewed after 2010, but they'll play again in Vancouver one last time.

'K, but the thing is that the Olympics aren't supposed to be a "break" when you go & be careful that you don't get hurt. The Olympics are supposed to be something that you strive & hunger for over the course of four years. When they finally arrive, you're supposed to go out there and give it your all. Nothing else should matter besides doing your very best.

I hope that the agreement doesn't get renewed.

If we can't get together a proper team of amateurs, then there's something wrong with our claim of being the world leaders in hockey, isn't there?

The real reason the pros are sent? The NHL screwed up by expanding so far & so fast that no one in the States would watch their crappy product. So they made a deal with the IIHF to showcase their talent under pristine conditions.

That sucked, too. ^_-

I agree, they should of never allowed in pros.
