Seen on the Elevator News Network: "In spite of great opening by Batman Whatever, Hollywood's still suffering its worst slump in 20 years."
Goody! Know what that means? NOTHING! Nothing will change - they'll still put out shite movies. Oh wait, yes, they'll start blaming downloaders again. Maybe we'll get Joe-the-stuntman (or whoever) back on-screen to lay a guilt trip on the people who paid to see the movie!
I was at a movie yesterday (Mr. & Mrs. Smith = enh), thinking nostalgically back to the days when there were no commercials in movie theatres. Bastards. Raise prices, make shitty movies, show commercials, and lay a guilt trip on us 'cause we had the unmitigated gall to pay for the show.

Date: 2005-06-20 07:22 pm (UTC)You're better to rent the DVD at Blockbuster's and buy a microwave popcorn bag and a 1-litre of whatever at the grocery store. It's cheaper, and all you need to get the full theatre experience is to turn the lights down and hire someone to try out the tones on their cellphone every five minutes.

Date: 2005-06-20 09:38 pm (UTC)Seeing that, Howl's Moving Castle has opened in only one theater here. On the other side of freakin' town. The same distribution happened with Spirited Away. And what's the first comment I see in the Citizen's review of Howl's?
"The world of Japanese animation is just plain freaky."
... Yes, we *know* that, but will you STOP discouraging people from classic animation and instead making them see the Pretty People From Hollywood?
That, and I can get a whole week's worth of entertainment for 12 bucks from the video store, instead of paying 10 for your "theatre experience" and another 8 for your magic popcorn & birdbath sized drink.
Bernard Black: Excuse me. I have a problem. I bought popcorn and a drink and I have no money left.
Attendant: That's what it costs, sir.
Bernard: What is it, magic popcorn? Does it produce some sort of dizzying high?
