Shoujo stickiness
Jun. 17th, 2005 05:06 pmI started out the day well, but then I started reading some of the loveliness that Jen has supplied. Mimi wo Sumaseba, the manga that was adapted into the Ghibli movie, Whisper of the Heart, is just lovely! I got thinking about adaptations, and changes that are made (Seiji (who's a painter, not a violin-maker) has an older brother Kouji, Shizuku's sister isn't near as big-sister-bossy, There were two cats - both black and slim - Luna *giggle* and Moon). I don't know that I could ever adapt a story for the screen, I'm just not sure how those changes enhanced the story. I still love the movie, and I'm enjoying the manga greatly, so at least there's that.
Then, I moved on to Mucha Kucha Daisuki. This started out as more typical shoujo fare, a little wacky, a little fun, über-naive (no really) girl with guy who's been around, family doesn't approve, and then well... I don't want to spoil anything, but the ending wasn't what I expected. It worked, though.
Well, then, because megaupload is killing me on download speed (still haven't been able to get Ai Baby *wail*), I was out of stuff on the computer. Okay, time to get back to work, right? Wrong!
On to Kare Kano. I'd picked up 14 & 15 at AN. At the end of vol. 9, when there was the hint of dark Soichiro, and then nothing for 3 volumes, well the frustration was intense. These two, they made up for that. I gotta say, this story has evolved impressively. Without anything that made me say "WTF? Where'd that come from?", it's really taken some turns. Gotta check when the next volume comes out.
