Date: 2005-02-24 01:00 pm (UTC)Depending on the exact situation, I might suggest pumping the gaps full of that spray foam insulation stuff... and maybe upgrade from regular duct-tape to the "high-heat" version (which has the advantage of being really shiny... it's a sheet of aluminum foil with sticky on the back, so it's pretty durable.)
If you can get at the ouside of the A/C, what I'd do is tape up the inside completely, then go spray the foam from outside 'cause that stuff is nasty-toxic-stinky. Then a layer of tape on the outside, and it might just survive a few winters.
