Prince Charles is getting remarried. I'm rather surprised. I'm not much of a Royal-watcher, but I have a friend who is, and I remember getting up at 4am with my mother and sister at the cottage one summer morning to watch his wedding to Diana, sighing over the romance of marrying a Prince.

Yeah, Camilla Parker Bowles isn't exactly an attractive woman, but there's obviously something strong & deep between those two, it's survived her marriage and his, and if they'll be happy, I'm all for it.

In other news, the promised (threatened?) storylet based on [livejournal.com profile] mmarques's three items has been delayed due to my earlier kitchen mishap. Fortunately, the blister's far enough from the tip of my finger that I can type, but close enough to it that it's a little uncomfortable. But, it'll come tomorrow, no stupid blister's going to damage my momentum!

I think it contributes to the theory that Charles will never actually be king, though. If grandma keeps up for another 5-8 years, which seems very likely, it'll likely go straight to William. This is, I believe, what he's finally faced, and so there's no more reason to put it off.

I've heard that theory too, and that was something I thought of when I heard about the engagement. It could be very good for the British Royal Family, to get a handsome young Prince on the throne.

I remember a couple of years ago, though, someone saying that because of the abdication of Edward VIII, the Royal Family can't really do something like that. I can't remember the whole argument, but it had to do with Edward being so irresponsible, so the rest of th family has to be more responsible to make up for it.

Because they've been doing so well at that...

I've always thought that if Camilla was gorgeous and Diana homely, the public would have resented Di for coming between the couple that were really in love, rather than what essentially amounted to a marriage for show and to meet some old-fashioned moral standards of virginity and religion... Just goes to show what an impact looks have on perceptions :p

It's interesting, the term is "Prince Charming", not "Prince Handsome". But you're right, far too much emphasis on looks, not enough substance.

I keep thinking this whole thing is as if the villian of a fairytale is getting the happy ending and the heroine got killed off.

I shouldn't keep blaming him for something that happened so long ago and I don't have all the facts on however. In the end it's not a fairytale and he is human. I suppose he is moving into a good place for him, and that's to be commended in anyone I think.

Isn't Charles dead yet?! Dammit! I want a loonie with William's face on it :(
(won't that be AWESOME?! we'd better keep the royals on our monies...)

Don't really like Charles myself, but I do think it's better that he and Camilla just do what they've probably wanted to do for a long long time. Dunno if they deserve it, but at least they'll have a little closure.
