On the downside, my speakers are sounding all static-y. It can't be the songfiles, those are at a good rate, and it's not just one song. They're internal speakers, so it's not like I can check a connection... wah! Any anti-Mac comments are not welcome. It's the same through the headphone jack, so external speakers won't fix it. :-(

If you're getting static through both speakers and headphones, try turning the master volume down and turning the iTunes volume up. You might just be overloading the output. Otherwise... I hate to say it, but have you done a hard shut-down and reboot? It's possible that low available memory is causing the audio soft/firmware to go on the fritz.
