Woke up with Pulp in my head, forgot to bring it with me though. One good thing about working here is I can listen to music. But not Pulp. Not today.

Yesterday's weather messed me up. All I was good for after work was sitting on the couch watching things. But the storm this morning was wonderful. Not as fierce as the one last week, but more to my liking. And it cooled things off & cleared the air.

Oh! I got a postcard! From Hawaii! And lovely lava flows. Stupid Canada Post put a sticker on it, but fortunately, that just peeled away. Thanks Ysa & Chris! No need to apologise for the ice cream post, I probably would have been equally exultant.

Out of work to do for the day. So, I've started reading Edith Wharton's House of Mirth. I rather wish I hadn't read the full synopsis before starting. The ought to give spoiler warnings on those.

But I'm absolutely charmed by the description of Lily Bart. I think I'll enjoy it. But I found a quote I just have to share: "But we're so different, you know: she likes being good, and I like being happy."

I shouldn't complain. I know I have no real cause for complaint. My life is pretty good right now. Sure, I have things I'd like to fix, but I've no one but myself to blame for the fact that I haven't yet fixed them.

The biggest source of irritation for me is my job. It's soul-destroying corporate hell, but it pays pretty well. So I shouldn't complain.

But... come on, you knew it was coming...

What irks me most about my job is the fact that I'm expected to be always thinking, but I have to deal with people who either don't grant me credit for always thinking, or who are just not thinking themselves. Any time we send a request to the developers, their first response is the most obvious and basic. We're the main support people for an office of over 50 users. We know the obvious and basic ways to use the software. If we're stumped, it's probably a deeper problem, or something we don't have the authority/rights to fix. Sigh.
