I watch stuff: Flashforward
Oct. 25th, 2009 07:52 pmSo, I sat down and watched 5 episodes of this today. Why, no, I didn't get my chores done. How did you guess? (I am unrepentant: I fulfilled every one of my responsibilities this past week [okay, except my French homework, but I'm ready to accept the consequences thereof] and mostly didn't break down.)
Right, in any case. It's not brilliant, but it's kind of enjoyable. I think I'll keep watching it for now. I like the way it has been set up to have the season finale coincide with the date it airs. I honestly don't know what the show will do if it gets renewed. Frankly, if it gets renewed and the writers make drastic changes late in the season, I'll be unsurprised but ticked.
Still, can we talk about the end of episode 5? Badass music while the good guys are in a shootout? Puh-leeze! Male bonding moment mid-shootout. *eyeroll* Also, all four guys walk out of that wreck undamaged? Yeah, right. Hey, they're all 100% fine, but the female agent is lying in a pool of her blood. Oh, Hollywood. On the plus side, she kicked *ass*. (But that ass-kicking must be within limits, of course. *sigh*)
I kind of want to read the book, but the plot of the one Robert Sawyer book I read went really wonky in a bad way, and I've heard that that's not atypical.
The handwavy science is handwavy. I can deal with handwavy science for a great story. (Hell, two of my favourite dramas make me all "oh, my science!", but I love them still.) I don't know if I can deal with this much handwavy science in a story of this calibre. (Also, you got a 2-minute glimpse of your life in six months; who's to say that the next five months, three weeks, and six days aren't utter shite? Or great followed by one shite day. Then there's what happens in six months and one day: all those people who took such comfort in their visions are right back in uncertainty-ville. Okay, that kind of interests me--in the hands of other writers than Hollywood typically produces.)
Finally, a little thing: like the nerds of the world would've waited for the FBI to create a site for people to post their flashforwards. Pfft! I wonder if the story is going to follow up on the privacy issue that Mosaic has become?
