Had a movie afternoon
Aug. 2nd, 2004 07:47 pmA common occurrence after a visit to Nance & Wayne. First was Angel Heart. I didn't like it. I really didn't like it. I figured out the ending about 2 minutes in. I didn't figure out how they would get there, but I knew where they were going. Along the way were several eeeeeew! moments. Yuk. um, that said, if anyone wants it, let me know.
Then, I decided to watch The English Patient. I haven't seen it for years, not since shortly after it came out on home video. I really like the movie, it's when I first discovered Juliette Binoche. In fact, I spent a great deal of my time in that AMC in Georgia saying "oooh, she's beautiful", between that and bouncing for Canadians (I was homesick), it's a wonder I understood the movie at all. So it was almost like seeing it again for the first time. The first thing I noticed: Colin Firth played the husband. Poor guy, once again losing a blonde to a Fiennes brother. Then, during the sanstorm, Almásy mentioned the Ghibli. *bounce*! Ghibli! *bounce*! Um yeah, there's a touching scene going on, should pay attention.
Something I never understood was why Juliette Binoche's Oscar nomination was for Supporting Actress, while Kristin Scott Thomas was nominated for Best Actress. I didn't exactly time it, but it seemed like Binoche had more screen time. And second billing, several spots up from Scott Thomas. And the cast wasn't in order of appearance... Then again, since Binoche got the Oscar (and wore a stunning claret-coloured gown), I don't really mind.
Now that the heat of the day has eased off a bit, I think I'll head out onto the balcony with my notebook.
