And I'm feeling the need for some attention, I will ask my (in)famous four questions. No, they don't reveal anything about you (other than your reaction to four questions), but they're questions I've decided I want to have answered.

1. What are your thoughts on Singin' in the Rain?
2. Chocolate - White, Milk or Dark?
3. Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly?
4. New York or Paris?

1. One of the best movies ever made. Lina Lamont is comedic genius, and Jean Hagen not wining the Oscar is just another in the long list of Oscar injustices.
2. The darker the better.
3. Can't decide - I love them both!
4. Paris! Parisparisparis! I've been told I should at least visit New York before being so biased toward Paris, but I disagree.

1. D.O.A. does a truly wonderful punk version of the title song. The movie was a bit over-the-top, though.
2. Milk for everyday consumption. Dark is good for covering sweet things (caramels, fruit etc). Nestle Milky Bar is the only edible white 'chocolate'.
3. Fred Astaire.
4. New York. Yes, you should see both before you decide.

1>Never seen singin' in the rain, never really cared to.

2>Dark. Very dark. And lots of it!

3>Insufficient data. Maybe I should watch some more old musical movies.

4>Never been to either, at least not in this life, I just have a great desire to vacation in NYC.

1. great film... one of my favourite musicals (and not just 'cause of moses supposes)... love donald o'connor
2. dark dark dark dark all the way... am not a big chocolate person... white is inedible, millk is too sweet but the lovely sharp bitterness of dark gets me everytime...
3. fred astaire... I like kelly but he's a bit too glossy sometimes
4. I've not been to either new york or paris but I'd have to take paris if only for the literary history...

1. What a glorious feeling to see this film. Definitely one of my all-time favourites. From the title song, to "Make 'Em Laugh", there are great songs, great dancing, and just a wonderful movie. Have you seen the Special Edition DVD? There are great extras on that.

2. Dark. Especially if filled with alcohol.

3. Fred Astaire.

4. Paris. Yes, see New York (it's where I'm from, after all), but for everything that I love about NY, there are also things that I hate about the city.

Oooh, alcohol-filled chocolates! Make it a framboise, and it's the second most heavenliest chocolate ever! (The Empress's position is unassailable.)

I haven't seen the special edition of Singin' In The Rain. There's a bit of a story behind my DVD, and it seems a shame to replace it. Or, that could just be my justification for not spending the money on it. The people who gave it to me would probably be the first to tell me to go ahead & buy it.

1) Brilliant, one of the best screen musicals. Donald O'Connor is the part I usually try to sing along with. Debbie Reynolds is merely OK compared to the rest of the cast, but that doesn't make the movie any less wonderful. Should be watched every year, along with White Christmas.

2) Milk. I've never really been much of a chocolate person. I tend to favor mints, and like chocolate chips (straight from the bag).

3) Kelly. I like Fred Astaire, but am a better singer than a dancer (OK, I can't dance well at all - I never had the training, and tend to be fairly gangly).

4) New York. I grew up next to it, and have always loved the fact that it contains almost every time of human society imaginable within its borders. Paris sounds romantic, but is distant to me. But then I've never been there.

Now I have 4 questions:

1) Lerner/Loewe or Rodgers/Hammerstein?

2) What one food do you eat that most of your friends consider gross/weird/not yummy?

3) Swing or Bebop?

4) Midnight or 6am?

My answers:

1) Tough one. I adore My Fair Lady and Camelot, but I think R&H get the nod, simply for having more of my favorite baritone numbers – L&L catered to leads who couldn't sing, like Rex Harrison. :D

2) I enjoy both liverwurst and pastrami, and am often surprised at people who don't like it.

3) Swing. I love Mingus, Davis and the like, but I will take a swing band like Benny Goodman over almost anything. Sing Sing Sing. Mmmmm-mmm.

4) 6am. Be it being up early or being up really really late, there's nothing like the quiet before a new day, with the sun just starting to show.

Debbie Reynolds is indeed the weakest of the 4 leads. But considering that she was cast in the role something like only 6 weeks before shooting (trivia from memory always dangerous), she didn't do a bad job. I love the fact that her own singing was voiced-over. Life imitates art. But watch it only once a year? Why starve yourself like that?

Now, onto your questions:
1. Tough call. Both teams have some great works, but they also have some not-so-great. I'm a little bitter towards Rogers & Hammerstein right now, but once the endless loop of June is Bustin' out All Over finally gets out of my head, that should pass.

2. Hmmm... another tough question. I looooove love looove balsamic vinegar, and can drink the good stuff straight, but so do many Italians. I'm usually the one being grossed out rather than grossing out. (Although, people make faces at me when I suggest putting balsamic vinegar on strawberries. Once they try it, though...)

3. I think swing. But I'm pretty open-minded when it comes to music.

4. 6am. I'm a morning person, and usually tired by midnight. I love the freshness & potential of a new day.

1. What are your thoughts on Singin' in the Rain?

See, I have seen the movie as a collection of parts, never fully through. But I'll always associate anything Singin' in the Rain with Kurt Browning because of the fantastic show piece he put together to the song, complete with street set and rain. He was brilliant, and very true to the original 'dance.'

2. Chocolate - White, Milk or Dark?

Lately I need my chocolate 'cut' with something, like nuts or coconut. The only kind I love on its own is White, though it's not my favourite. Go figure.

3. Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly?

I love what Ginger Rogers said about Astaire. Soemthing to the effect that she did everything he did, only backwards and in heels. I love him as a team, but I love Gene Kelly on his own. Fred was hilarious in Easter Parade, but Gene was terrific in Let's Make Love. Choices, choices.

4. New York or Paris?

Paris, because I have no desire to go to New York. That, and Amelie was beautiful in showcasing the city. It's been said that Amelie was made as a love letter to Paris, rather than simply the movie storyline itself. I'd love to hit the museums, see the painters, etc. But I'd skip the eiffel tower.

When I was in Paris the first time, I sat at the base of the Eiffel Tower on a busy Saturday afternoon. It was very nice, the sun shining, warm, lots of people & energy, but I wasn't in the thick of the crowd. It was good.

Then I went up it a few nights later. It was crowded, people were pushy, and then when I got to the top, I felt like I was too far away from the city. That wasn't as good.

On my second trip, I got myself all settled in a place to stay and went for a walk. I turned a corner, and there was the Seine, and on the other side was the Eiffel Tower, and I thought "Oh yeah, I'm in Paris". That was good, too. :-D

1. Something I need to see
2. Bittersweet

4. Paris, it has better museums

1. Aside from the song, it just brings back memories from A Clockwork Orange. I've never actually seen the actual Singin' in the Rain.

2. I love White, but Milk Chocolate is my preference.

3. You're gonna kill me about this, but I don't know much about either. -.-;;

4. Tokyo. :P If I had no choice, New York.

So, the geek version of question #4 would be "Tokyo or Kyoto"?

From: [identity profile] tamakun.livejournal.com
*snickers* I think so. :P

I'd like go to to Tokyo for the high technology, but I'd like go to Kyoto for the culture... that's be a toss-up.

1. Must watch... all the time
2. Dark, Darker, Darkest - mmmmmmmmmmmm
3. A little from column A; a little from column B
4. Rome. Definitely Rome =)

What's with everyone breaking the rules?!? The question is "New York or Paris?" Rome is not an option!!!!! (Um, is Rome where La Scala is? If so, then you, and only you, can get away with it.)

From: [identity profile] linzq.livejournal.com
Nope - la Scala's in Milan. But I could go live in Rome for ever and ever more...

So I was just having a blatant disregard for the rules....

I think Paris would beat New York for me.... mmmmmmmm Opera Garnier!!!!

1) I've never seen it, but it's one of those one's that I'll make time for at some point.

2) I don't eat chocolate that much, but I do like milk chocolate the best

3) I know they've got something to do with music, but I have to confess a lack of knowledge of what either of them sing [I read rather then listen to music]

4)New York, I'd like to wander around and find back alley thrift shops
