Where's my fucking sunshine?
Jun. 16th, 2010 10:14 amSo, I get the A Word a Day e-mail every morning. Each week usually has a theme. This week's is "words related to weather." Anu Garg usually introduces each theme with a bit of a write up. Monday's included this gem: The way I see it, weather is a state of mind. Fuck that noise. Two days later, I'm still pissed off.
Way to be incredibly dismissive of other people's reality. Weather is air pressure and it seriously fucks with people's heads. It gives some people migraines and sends some people into downward spirals. It is not a fucking state of mind. Grr.
The thing is, this is just a thing I have to deal with. I usually do pretty well. I pride myself on the fact that I have not yet missed a day of work because my brain was low. (There were days that pride was the only thing that got me out the door, but it did, and I continue to take pride in that.) In the grand scheme of things, I don't have it near as bad as some people do. I try to keep that in mind always, and be grateful for my situation and considerate of other people's.
It seems like a small thing, but it still fucks with me two days later. That's why it's so important to be aware of all the -isms and just generally not being an asshole.
(Advance warning: Saying "He didn't mean it that way" does not fall under "generally not being an asshole.")
