Bitter, jaded, but trying to get over it.

ginny_tI suddenly need a "political ranting" tag. >_< Just finished reading an article about some of the stuff going on in the US right now. Granted, it's an article from an organisation with an admitted bias. (Better that than certain "news" organisations with their hidden agendas!) It leaves me sad and worried. But there's literally nothing that I can do, because anyone I go up against can simply say "It's not your country, butt out." It's not my country, but y'all are a bit of a difficult neighbour, as a nation. Just look at the softwood lumber debate. I can't bear to. Yeah, NAFTA, and selective compliance are another trigger. That goes back to my sense of honour. But that's a tangent.
(Another tangent - yesterday over soemone's shoulder I read a letter to the editor by an American who chose to come to Canada. It was well-written and made me cheer. What didn't make me cheer was that it was written in response to a letter written by a Canadian "American in a Canadian body". Good thing I didn't read that one, 'cause it would've made my blood boil. To people who feel that way, I have one word to say: Leave. Actually, I have 4 words: Get the fuck out. This is not a perfect country, but it is one of the finest in the world, and if you don't like it, if you want to be American, go have yourself a nice life.)
Um yeah, I got sidetracked majorly. Gwynn Dyer said everything would be okay, internationally, if the citizens of the other nations of the world would be patient enough to allow their governments to stand by and watch the current house of cards in the US power-structure fall apart. But problem is that it leaves the citizens of the US in even worse shite than is currently the case. And I only have so much floor & couch space to offer to people. (And a roommate who gets a say in that, too.) But again, there's nothing I can do.
Can I even admonish my American friends to get up & do something? Can I? I suppose I could, but what do I do about the situation here? It's not perfect here, I've already admitted. The "Conservative Party" (CCRAP, damnit!) scares the bejeezus out of me, but what do I do about them, aside from voting? Hell, the Liberals are fat old men who take whatever they think they can get away with. (And get caught. So they're incompetent fat old men on the take. Goody.) And really, I don't know what's going on in your lives, maybe you're too busy trying to keep your job so you can keep a roof over your head so you can ... vicious cycle, that.
OH! I remember where I was going - New Orleans. Where the a big chunk of the post-disaster rebuilding force of Louisiana is not. "Where are they?" you ask. In Iraq. Fighting the fight that has to be fought because so many have died fighting this fight. Bastard.
But yeah. I'm going to give blood next week. I'd go today, but just being over this bug, it's not a good idea. If you can handle it, go.
