mmarques set out to make it hard with:
1. Crepes
2. Paris
3. A two-headed dog
"What would you like to do today?" she asked.
"I would like to buy crepes and eat them under the Eiffel Tower."
She made a face. "Okay, realistically, what would you like to do today?"
I sighed. "We could at least have crepes, right?"
"We can have crepes, yes. There's a place not far from here, we can walk. It's a nice day."
We walked out into the very nice day. I turned my face up to the sunshine and smiled. "This is almost as good as Paris," I said.
She laughed lightly. "I never had an interest in going to Paris until I met you. You've talked about it so much that now I want to go, just to see what it's like."
I smiled. "Sorry, I'm a little one-track-ish about Paris, I know."
As we walked to the crepe shop, she chattered a little, about things going on in her life, about friends, movies she'd seen recently. It was nothing very serious, so I let my mind wander a little.
Suddenly, I stopped, frowned at a poster on a lamppost.
She stopped too. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I was just thinking about threes. What's with that? Why do things come in threes?"
"I don't know. There's the holy trinity..."
"Yep and triads, too. But think about a tripod - it's such an unstable platform." I made a tipping motion with my hands.
"Well, there's triangles..."
"Yeah, and that too, there's love triangles. Those are no fun."
"I don't have any personal experience with those, but I'll take your word for it."
"Maybe it has something to do with intent," she said after a minute. "If something happens once, it's a fluke, twice, it's a coincidence, but if it happens three times, that's the beginning of a pattern."
"Could be," I said. "But what about him, why three heads?"
She studied the poster that had caught my eye. Some local band playing at a club. The graphic was a very grainy representation of Cerberus.
"Well, that's the same thing. A two-headed dog is a freak, but a three headed dog is on purpose."
"It just seems excessive," I said. I walked away from the poster purposefully. "How much farther to the crepe place?"
