All along I've been spelling Grey Cup wrong. It just looks better to me with an "a".

The Argos beat the Ti-Cats on Friday night! They're going to the division finals. For the third straight year. Against the Als. I don't know if I should start paying attention now, or what. I guess so, after all, I want to go to Grey Cup with my team playing. And it's on CBC, one of the only 2 english channels I get.

So, I've asked this question of [livejournal.com profile] colonsay at least 5 different times, and I keep forgetting the answer. What's the name of the "Scores!" song at hockey. You know: dah da-dah na nananana HEY! Like that. I know it's got a number in it.

Same Grey as in tea (same family anyway). It was actually presented as the trophy for the Canadian rugby champions but somewhere along he way the CFL stole it.

See, I was about to say: "Cool! I never knew! And I love trivia!", but then it turned into a pro-rugby dig... :-D

Actually there is a bit of a story in here. The predecessor of what we now call Canadian football was called rugby at least up to the 1930s by which time it had diverged enough from the game as played in the rest of the world that when a club was formed in Hamilton by Welsh and Scottish steelworkers it described itself as the Hamilton British Rugby Football Club. Ther's a fair amount of related memorabilia in the Hamilton Hornets' clubhouse.

See, I could be wrong, but that song always sounded like a modified version of Doctorin' the Tardis, by The KLF (aka The Timelords). Then, I heard it was called Rock 'n Roll.

But I might be barking up the incorrect plant, there.

I have it on good authority (my husband, master of cheesy early 90s music) that the "goal scoring" song is by 2 Unlimited and it's called "Get ready for this".

The one that starts off with "Y'all ready for this?" Hunt it down, I'm certain it's the one you're thinking of.

Unless, of course, it's the *other" da na na song that goes na na NAAAAA-naaaa (hey!) da-na na, in which case it's "Rock and roll part II". I wish I could hear you hum it, this would be solved in a second! :)

Actually, it's not the "y'all ready for this?". You don't want me to hum, trust me. I hum or sing things and they're completely unrecognisable. I think it's the Rock & Roll Part II - thanks!

I think you're on the right track with the Rock 'n Roll... thanks!

The song is Rock 'n Roll, Part 2 by Gary Glitter. The KLF later used it to do their own Doctorin' the TARDIS, though. But Glitter's what's used at sporting events. It's used less these days as the singer was arrested for having underage porn on his computer.

You know a frightening amount of stuff. I used to think that I knew a lot of trivia. (For instance, I didn't know that porn had to age. Like a wine, then? :-p)

Ensure that you utterly fail to mention aging porn to Chaos. That could take us places we don't want to go... and we get bruised regularly by our wives for the stuff we come up with on our own.

:D
